The 16th Kigali International Peace Marathon has for a second time been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Rwanda athletics federation (RAF) has announced.

The event, which was scheduled for June 21, will now take place in October.

This is the second time this year’s Kigali Peace Marathon has been moved as it was initially due May 17 before it was pushed by one month amid the uncertainty created by the rapid spread of coronavirus that seriously compromised domestic and international events.

"We understand that unforeseen circumstances can often interfere with the plans of our participants, and the postponement is the best choice for us,” Fidele Mubiligi, the RAF president, told Times Sport on Sunday. "We have been closely monitoring the situation.”

All major sports in the country are suspended since mid-March as the country, and the Ministry for Sports last week declared that there would be no sports activity until September.

Mubiligi added: "We have not set the exact date yet, it will be announced in due course.

As has been the tradition since the inaugural edition in 2004, the 2020 Kigali Peace Marathon comprises three categories; full marathon, half-marathon and the 10km run for peace.
