How do you spend your days during lockdown? When does your day start? Do you have a routine pattern and how have you had to adjust? Is it any fun?

Below, some of our young readers share insights to how they stay productive and have fun at the same time.

Please share with us, we would love to read about your days.

Eldrick Karegeya, 10

This lockdown has made me learn many things‭. ‬It’s been a long period of being indoors‭, ‬not visiting friends or going to church‭. ‬I have mastered baking muffins and a few house chores‭. ‬I have learned to forgive others‭, ‬be patient and understand that everyone knows what they are doing‭, ‬and not to pass judgement onto others‭. ‬I am also skilful in the‭ ‬"Ninja home learning app”‭.‬

I have learned to keep at home when there is danger‭. ‬I am becoming talented in Spotball‭, ‬and I can now fix my bike on my own‭. ‬I‭ ‬have learned to wash my father’s car and its actually an interesting activity‭. ‬I also take part in washing dishes and some of my clothes‭. ‬I am able to make my‭ ‬bed‭, ‬organise my bedroom and weed our home garden‭.‬

I started learning a lot about COVID-19‭ ‬disease‭. ‬For example‭, ‬the disease spreads through contact between infected people‭, ‬which‭ ‬is why‭, ‬it is advisable to avoid crowded places‭.  ‬I am now familiar with washing hands properly for twenty seconds‭, ‬using soap‭ ‬and water but also‭, ‬wearing masks to avoid spreading of the disease‭. ‬I am also informed that while coughing‭, ‬we must face away from other people and cough in the elbow so that saliva does not spread to others‭. ‬I have also gained the love and ability of calculating my time effectively‭, ‬especially giving more time to revising and doing homework that is sent by teachers‭, ‬before playing‭. ‬Credit goes to my parents who have given me support when I need consultation for my school work‭. ‬

This lockdown has been a learning ground for me‭. ‬I used to wake up and go to school without doing anything at home‭. ‬Since I am now home fulltime‭, ‬I have learned that every morning after breakfast‭, ‬I have to wash the dishes‭, ‬dry them and put them in the cupboard‭. ‬I have learned to work in the garden‭, ‬weed‭, ‬water and harvest cucumbers and pepper‭. ‬I am now talented in chicken rearing‭,‬‭ ‬feeding and collecting eggs‭. ‬I know how to make dough for chapatti‭, ‬mandazi‭, ‬and pancakes‭. ‬I can now wash my clothes and arrange them‭. ‬I have learned Bible stories and songs‭. ‬It has turned out that I am learning more than I expected‭.‬

Although the lockdown seemed boring at the start‭, ‬I had to look at the bigger picture and bury the boredom‭. ‬I am glad that I am‭ ‬skilled in story writing and reading‭. ‬I have also learned multiplication‭, ‬division‭, ‬spelling and computer skills‭. ‬Sports is the‭ ‬new fun‭, ‬I do sports in the evening‭, ‬especially volleyball‭, ‬football‭, ‬jogging‭, ‬and yoga‭. ‬These sports help me keep fit and healthy‭. ‬I have practiced personal protection measures of COVID-19‭ ‬by staying at home‭, ‬washing hands‭, ‬masking my nose and mouth‭, ‬listening and watching the news about its spread‭. ‬I always pray to God for a vaccine for COVID-19‭ ‬and that the lockdown fully ends so that we go back to school and continue with our studies‭. ‬
