Spanish side Levante have reportedly launched a bid to sign Rwanda international this summer and the club has put up $600,000 on the table to secure his signature.

Kagere, 33, currently plays for regional giants Simba SC and leads the chase for the golden boot in the 2019/2020 Tanzania Premier League, having netted 19 goals in 28 matches.

Should the deal come through, according to the player’s agent Patrick Gakumba, Kagere will be offered a two-year contract with the La Liga outfit.

"Levante have been following Meddie (Kagere) for a while now,” said Gakumba. "They first noticed him in a friendly match between Simba and Sevilla in a friendly match last year, and picked interest in him ever since.”

Reigning Tanzania champions, Simba SC, hosted Sevilla, another Spanish side, in May 2019 in a high-scoring friendly match that ended 5-4 in favour of the visitors.

"They have also looked at and analysed his records in Rwanda and during his time with Gor Mahia (in Kenya) and they have been impressed by his scoring prowess. If Simba agree to the deal, Kagere could play in La Liga next season.”

Levante’s transfer fee could be a sticking point for Kagere switching to Europe, adds Gakumba.

However, Weekend Sport understands that the marksman is also on the radar of Albanian outfit KF Skenderbeu Korce, and the two parties have opened preliminary talks.

Kagere, who previously played for local sides Atraco (now defunct), SC Kiyovu, Mukura, Police and Rayon Sports as well as KF Tirana in Albania, was the best player for Simba as they reached the quarter-finals of the 2018/2019 Caf Champions League for a historic first time.

He was named on the 18-man team of the continent’s top club competition.
