New local talent show SupraVoice has extended the deadline for registration to April 30 to allow more people who want to contest an opportunity to send their entries.

Initially, the deadline for entry had been set for March 31 but it has now been extended for another 30 days. The organisers say they want to give an opportunity to more people to try their luck on the Rwf1m prize for the winners.

Alphonse Nsengiyumva, one of the organisers of the competition said that their initial plans were disorganised by the new coronavirus outbreak which led to a nationwide lockdown, affecting their plans and the levels of participation they anticipated.

"At this point, we would be selecting the finalists but due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Rwanda and the world in general, has been disrupted by this pandemic, meaning that all our plans were affected,” he said.

"According to our earlier plan, by now we would be making videos of the finalists for the public to decide but it now seems impossible as everything has come to a standstill. We hope by the end of April the situation will have normalised,” he added.

He said the lockdown also affected entries as people were diverted into more important things, meaning that some who could have wanted to participate failed to send their videos on time. The extension is meant to cater for those who missed.

"Those who were not able to submit their entries can do it now. They have up to April 30 to make their submissions,” Nsengiyumva added.

To participate, one sends their video singing on WhatsApp on +250783014482 or upload it on Instagram and tag @Supra_voice1035.

The organisers say so far over 80 entries have been received. The competition is aimed at promoting and discovering new singing talent.

Many entertainment-related activities have been put on hold as the country continues to observe a lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19, till April 19.

So far, 82 cases have been diagnosed in Rwanda.
