Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA)  has set retail prices for cooking gas, which sellers should not exceed as Rwanda continues the lockdown aimed at containing COVID-19.

According to a communique issued Monday evening, the retail price of gas in the city of Kigali must not exceed Rwf1,084 per kilogramme effective Tuesday 7th April 2020 until further notice.

RURA added that the price of gas should be displayed and be clearly made visible to consumers at retail outlets.

For LPG wholesaler service providers, RURA said they require a valid license issued by the regulatory body itself,  without which it is prohibited to operate.

In the same announcement, RURA also issued some guidelines for taxi cab operators and users.

Among these, passengers allowed to use the taxi cabs are only those seeking essential services as communicated by the office of the prime minister.

Among the essential services that remain operating during this lockdown according to the PM's office include hospitals, pharmacies, petrol stations, markets, banks and shops selling foods.

However, RURA also orders every taxi cab to be equipped with a hand sanitizer for the driver and passengers to use.

"And drivers are required to wear a face mask," it read.

"Taxicab drivers are allowed to park at any convenient spot to avoid crowded taxicab parks and must comply with all the guidelines set by the ministry of health especially keeping at least one-metre distance between any two people," it added.
