Uganda has become the latest East African Community nation to report the case of coronavirus.

The country’s Ministry of Health said in a statement that a 36-year-old Ugandan male who arrived from Dubai at 2:00 am on Saturday, 21 March 2020 aboard Ethiopian airline tested positive for Covid-19.

 The ministry said that the resident of Kampala had traveled to Dubai on March 17, for business purposes.

"At the time of travel he was in good health,” the statement reads in part.

However, upon coming back, his temperature was 38.7, prompting the doctors to isolate him.

He was tested and the tests were taken to Uganda Virus Research Institute. The results showed that the patient tested positive for Covid-19.

To date, at least 1,827 travelers including Ugandans have been identified as coming from high-risk countries and are being monitored, the ministry said.  

According to the statement, about 827 are completing self-quarantine while about 1,000 are under quarantine.
