ENDING APR’s unbeaten run in the Rwanda Premier League will serve as extra motivation for SC Kiyovu when the two sides square off at Kigali Stadium on Tuesday, starting at 3pm.

Runaway leaders APR have not lost a single match this season – after 22 matches – as they bid for an ‘invincible’ campaign, while fifth-placed SC Kiyovu are on the quest for a top four finish.

The two renew their rivalry hot off big victories over the weekend, with Kiyovu having thumped strugglers Heroes FC 5-0, while APR humiliated fourth-placed Mukura 4-0, over the weekend.

Speaking to Times Sport on Monday, SC Kiyovu head coach Emmanuel Ruremesha said that his team will do everything possible to get points off APR.

"We have a lot (at stake) to fight for. We will give the best of ourselves for victory,” he said.

The Green Baggies not only look to dent the army’s side unbeaten streak, but it would also be their first league victory over APR in nearly 11 years.

"We are aware all the odds will be against us, that is also a motivation. Obviously APR want to keep their unbeaten record, but we also want to finish in top four. It is going to be a tough match on both sides,” added Ruremesha.

A win at SC Kiyovu would move them to ten points clear at the top, should Marines upset second-placed Rayon Sports at Umuganda Stadium.

In a separate interview, in-form APR striker Lague Byiringiro noted that, "We won’t take them (Kiyovu) lightly, winning pushes us to want more. After the weekend victory, now we are fully focused on getting a positive result against Kiyovu.”

The 20-year old was one of the four APR scorers during their thumping win away to Mukura on Saturday, with the other goals coming from Fitina Omborenga, Kevin Ishimwe and Innocent Nshuti.

Ahead of match-day 23 action, APR top the table with 54 points, followed by Rayon with 47. Police are third with 43, while Mukura complete top four at 37.

"I think we have clear potential and ability to go all the way to the title unbeaten, but that is not really our main target.”

All we are fighting for is the title.”
