Ibengo named MVP as the Hoops win Women’s Day tourney title

The Hoops Rwanda have lifted the title of the 2020 Women’s Day basketball tournament following a narrow win over IPRC-Huye in the final at Amahoro Stadium on Sunday.

Moise Mutokambali’s side won 60-57, thanks to the outstanding contribution from new signing Feza Isomi Ibengo who was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition.

The Hoops took early control of the game with a 19-12 first quarter, but the lead did not last as IPRC-Huye responded a powerful 20-12 second quarter to go into halftime break with a thin 32-31 lead.

In a hard-fought third quarter, IPRC-Huye again prevailed, 13-12, but the Hoops had the last laugh as they turned the tables to seal their victory with a 17-12 score in the final quarter.

The three-day showpiece also included youth and veterans categories, with Marie-Reine (youth) and Ubumwe (veterans) emerging as the winners.
