MUKURA Victory Sports have vowed to halt APR’s lengthy unbeaten run in the Rwanda Premier League when the two sides face-off at Huye Stadium on Saturday.

The highly anticipated clash gets underway at 3pm.

Leaders APR have won 15 times and were held on six occasions after 21 matches into the 2019/2020 term. Only nine matches stand between them and a historic season-long unbeaten record.

While the army side still have serious matches to play, very few can be as tough as Saturday’s away encounter against Tony Hernandez’s side. The latter have 37 points, in fourth position.

Speaking to Times Sport on Friday, Mukura captain Ramadhani Niyonkuru urged his teammates to ‘give your very best’ in a bid to keep the three points at their home turf.

"This is a very important and tough game. It finds APR in good position as table leaders, but it balances out because we are also the hosts. We must give our very best to take all the points.”

"I believe it is going to be a massive clash,” he added.

Record 17-time champions APR and Mukura go into the match fresh from identical 1-0 mid-week victories against Police and Heroes, respectively.

Striker Dany Usengimana scored the lone goal as APR saw off third-placed Police on Wednesday, and the 23-year-old is confident the army side can as well overcome Mukura.

"We expect a strong opposition from Mukura, and we have prepared accordingly. We want to win and strengthen our title credentials, for that to be achieved all the players understand what needs to be done and we are ready.”

He further appealed to his teammates that, "there is no room for errors, we don’t have the luxury to drop points anyhow.”

Elsewhere on Saturday, Rayon Sports host Musanze at Kigali Stadium, Heroes face Kiyovu at Bugesera Stadium, Gicumbi and Sunrise face off at Mumena Stadium, Marines tussle it out with Etincelles at Umuganda Stadium, whereas AS Muhanga will be up against Muhanga Stadium.

Gasogi edge Espoir

In the meantime, newcomers Gasogi United have moved into 7th position after beating Espoir 1-0 at Kigali Stadium on Friday.

Midfielder Hassan Kikoyu netted the all-important goal from the spot in the 78th minute to inspire his side to their second win this week after stunning SC Kiyovu, also 1-0, on Tuesday.

Gasogi, champions of the 2018-19 second division league, have picked up 28 points from 22 matches this season, and they trail fourth-placed Mukura by 9 points.

Rayon are second with 44 points, one ahead of Police. Strugglers Heroes and Gicumbi are rocked at the bottom of the 16-team table with 15 points apiece.
