Construction works on four proposed tennis courts have started at the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre (IPRC) Kigali, in Kicukiro District.

The Rwf30 million project was launched on Monday, February 10, by Theoneste Karenzi, president of the local tennis governing body, RTF.

"The first phase started with the construction of two courts thanks to the funding from the Government through the Ministry for Sports. And, now we are adding four more courts,” he said.

He further noted that the expansion of the project from two to six courts will be funded through a grant the federation won from International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Once complete, Karenzi hopes that the facility will bring to reality the dreams of many young people who have always wanted to take up tennis to professional level.

On top of serving as training base, the clay courts will also be used to organise and host several competitions, local and regional.
