Rwanda has won the hosting rights of the second round qualifiers – in women’s beach volleyball – for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The four-day event is scheduled for March 25-29 in Rubavu District.

According to Adalbert Mfashimana, the secretary-general of Rwanda volleyball federation (FRVB), the beach volleyball courts on the shores of Lake Kivu, which will host the qualifiers, are being worked on and will be ready in time.

"We will be ready in time, both in terms of preparing the venue and our teams so they can perform to their best ability. We are confident about it,” said Mfashimana.

He further added: "Hosting the tournament is extra advantage to our teams.”

Rwanda will be vying for one of the two available Group B tickets against Morocco, Niger, Sudan and South Africa.

Coached by Christophe Mudahinyuka, Rwanda will be represented by two teams; the double of Charlotte Nzayisenga and Valentine Munezero as well as Judith Hakizimana along with Seraphine Mukantabana.

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone will host the second round qualifiers in men’s category from March 26 to 30. Rwanda has been placed in Pool D alongside Sierra Leone, Egypt, Togo and Mali.
