Eric Rutanga (on the ball) assumed Rayon Sports captaincy at the end of last season.

Alain Kirasa, the Rayon Sports interim coach, has urged his players to be consistent if they are challenge APR for the league title following their goalless draw against AS Kigali on Saturday.

APR have now opened up a six-point advantage at the top of the Rwanda Premier League table after edging Bugesera 2-1 at Kigali Stadium on Sunday.

With the victory, Mohamed Adil Erradi’s APR also extended their unbeaten run to 17 matches this season. Rayon, who have 35 points, have tasted defeat twice.

In a post-match interview, Kirasa said: "We have to give our best in every match and build winning consistency. We cannot continue to drop silly points if we are to retain the title.”

"This performance was far below the best we can do. I am disappointed.”

The upset against Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali was Rayon’s fifth draw – and seventh time they have dropped points – after 17 match rounds into the 2019/2020 season.

Rayon won last season’s league title with 72 points, seven clear of runners-up APR while AS Kigali finished in seventh position with 39 points.
