Former Minister Pie Mugabo is dead

Pie Mugabo, a former Minister in charge of Social Welfare in the first post-Genocide Transitional National Government, has passed away.

Mugabo passed away at King Faisal Hospital where he had been battling sickness for a lengthy period of time.

Mugabo, who until recently was a retired judge in the High Court, was a member of the Liberal Party (PL).

Mugabo was also the first post-genocide President of PL.

He was among the few politicians who were in opposition before the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, who survived the massacre.

According to sources within the party, Mugabo has been battling heart-related complications and is said to have had a stroke.

In 2017, he was awarded for his outstanding service to the justice sector.
