APR slipped up in their bid for the league title as they were held by struggling AS Kigali to a goalless draw at Kigali Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

And, as a result, the army side’s six-point lead could be cut to three points if second-placed Police beat Sunrise at Nyagatare Stadium on Sunday.

In a match that lacked clear-cut chances on either side, and with very few shots on target, both APR and Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali looked satisfied for the shared spoils.

AS Kigali new signing Bosco Kayitaba arguably had the biggest goal-scoring chance of the game but his effort in the 52nd minute was blocked by centre-back Ange Mutsinzi after goalie Umar Rwabugiri failed to clear the ball.

With the draw, AS Kigali remain in 11th position with 18 points, while, despite the setback, APR extended their unbeaten run to 16 matches this season.

Mukura sink Espoir

In the meantime, Mukura came from behind to beat Espoir 2-1 at Kamarampaka Stadium, in Rusizi District, to move to fourth with 25 points, two ahead of now fifth-placed AS Muhanga who face Musanze on Sunday afternoon.

Ugandan striker Fred Kyambade put the hosts ahead from the spot after 12 minutes and could have easily doubled their early lead had the forwards been more clinical.

Former APR striker Bertrand Iradukunda brought Mukura back in the game with a 35th-minute equaliser before Innocent Ndizeye Kigeme netted the winner at the hour mark.

It was Mukura’s first victory in their last six matches following a five-match winless run in December. Their last win had come against Etincelles on November 27.

In other matches on Saturday, Heroes lost 1-0 to Bugesera whereas SC Kiyovu and Etincelles also played out a goalless stalemate.
