Rwanda’s men beach volleyball teams have been drawn in Africa Sub-zone 6 along Egypt, Burundi, and Eritrea at the upcoming qualifiers tournaments for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The men’s tournament is due January 3-7 in Eritrea.

The African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) announced the draws on Tuesday, a week before the competition gets underway in the Horn of Africa nation.

Under the guidance of Jean Paul Mana, Rwanda will field two teams in the preliminary qualifiers, with Olivier Ntagengwa and Patrick Akumuntu forming one team, while the Fils Habanzintwari and Venuste Gatsinze will make the second pair.

The best two teams in the sub-zonal qualifiers will advance to the zonal level in qualifiers. The best from zones will progress to the final continental stage in June.

In the meantime, Charlotte Nzayisenga and Valentine Munezero as well as the partnership of Seraphine Mukantambara and Judith Hakizimana will represent the country in women’s qualifiers.

The two teams, coached by Christophe Mudahinyuka, have been placed in sub-zone 5 in the qualifiers.

The women’s category competition starts on January 9 and runs through 12 in Tanzania.

Twenty one teams will be accompanied by the top three teams on the continent to make 24 teams who will qualify to the second phase, where they will be divided into 4 pools of 6 teams.

The top 2 of each of the second phase teams will make it to the finals, which will also serve as the 2020 Beach Volleyball Africa Cup of Nations.

The African champions will claim the lone Olympic ticket allocated to Africa.
