What to expect at Kigali’s New Year Countdown

Fally Ipupa will grace The End of Year Concert at KCC.

Tomorrow, all roads will lead to Kigali Convention Center, as Congolese music superstar, Fally Ipupa, gears for his highly anticipated end-of-year performance at the New Year Countdown concert.

Organised by Rwanda Events Group and Radison Blu, the concert, which happens on the eve of every year, the show is expected to usher Rwandans and revelers from Kigali into the New Year with the venue’s sky set to be covered by fireworks.  

Organisers of the annual show told The New Times that preparations are in their last stages and everything is being put in place to put up a successful show. 

"We have been planning for this concert for some time so we are ready for our performers. 2020 is special for all Rwandans for obvious reasons, therefore, we want to be part of the celebration as well,” one of the organisers told The New Times.

"Concert goers are definitely in for a surprise. They should expect high-level entertainment that is diverse and we are confident everyone will feel included and celebrated in the range of entertainment provided,” she added.

The Kigali New Year Countdown is establishing itself as the undisputed end-of-year music extravaganza, having attracted African music heavyweights like Nigerian diva Yemi Alade, Kenyan music crew Sauti Sol and Koffi Olomide.

"Organising the New Year Countdown has been nothing short of exciting. This is not only just a New Year we are entering, but also a whole new decade. We get to celebrate that in Kigali Convention Centre,” she said.

Our paper has learnt that Fally Ipupa will arrive in Kigali on the eve of his performance, today, December 30 together with his 30 member band who will be backing him on stage.

Some of his popular songs on his music repertoire include A Flyé, Bafana, Nidja (feat. R. Kelly), Inama (feat. Diamond Platnumz) and Ça bouge pas among many.

He will be performing alongside a selection of top DJs, including Rwanda’s DJ Toxxyk, DJ Shine from France, DJ Sinyorita from Tanzania and Feem Deejay from Uganda, all of whom will be spinning the disks to keep concert-goers on their feet.

There is a limited of number of tickets which go for Rwf30, 000 for regulars and Rwf50, 000 for VIP.

Tickets are already on sale via Kigali New Year Countdown website www.knyc.rw while others can pick the tickets at Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Kigali Convention Centre, Bourbon Coffee UTC, Bourbon Coffee MTN Center, Alimentation la Gardienne (Kiyovu) and Charisma (Kigali Heights).
