Misfiring AS Kigali set top five target

AS KIGALI have set an ambitious target to finish in the top five this season following their difficult 1-0 win over Heroes FC at Kigali Stadium on Friday.

It was the third win for the City of Kigali-sponsored side halfway through the 30-match-round 2019/2020 Rwanda Premier League.

Centre-back Latif Bishira scored the lone goal in the 23rd minute off a beautiful pass from skipper Haruna Niyonzima. The latter is likely to rejoin Tanzania giants Young Africans this month after agreeing to personal terms with the club this week.

Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali have had a terrible start to their league season as the Peace Cup holders have not been out of the bottom half of the 16-team table. They currently lie in 11th position with 17 points.

However, former Rwanda international Nshimiyimana is hopeful that the win against Heroes could mark the start of a turnaround for his side.

"The victory (against Heroes) was a much-needed booster of confidence ahead of the league’s second half matches. It was a deserved win,” he said.

He added, "We need to build on this win and climb up the table. It is going to be tough but it is very possible. Our target now is at least a top-five finish.”
