CID police in Kacyiru are holding two employees of BRALIRWA for attempting to lynch a suspected thug who was caught red-handed stealing from their truck that was carrying beer.

The two men identified as Salim Celestin Uwiruka and one Bizimungu were in charge of a Mercedes Benz truck which was at the time parked at Car Wash in Kimihurura.

Uwiruka pleaded that the thug had stolen from them several times and beating him up was not meant to kill him but to teach him a lesson.

"It is not the first time this man is stealing from us and this time when we got him before escaping, we had to punish him. Such people in most cases steal and get away with it,” Uwiruka said amid fuming crowds.

According to an eye witness, the unidentified thug reportedly picked a jacket from the car and tried to escape before he ran out of luck.

The angry owners mercilessly beat him up and threw him in a trench threatening death before being saved by a soldier who later alerted the police.

"The soldier flashed his identity card and kept the two men from running away until police intervened,” said the witness who preferred anonymity.

Policemen who rushed to the scene drove off the nearly-dead man to Kacyiru Police hospital and appealed to the public to desist from such acts.
