NYAMASHEKE — Nyamasheke District is set to construct a genocide memorial site worth Rwf.50m in Gihombo Sector.
This was disclosed by the district Vice Mayor for Social Affairs, Catherine Gatete in an exclusive interview with The New Times yesterday. She said they hope to begin the construction work early next month, after mobilising enough funds.

"We want to construct a huge genocide memorial site in Gihombo Sector in order to rebury decently our fellow Rwandans who were killed there during the 1994 genocide,” Gatete said, adding that the construction will be partly funded by donors and residents.

The site will be constructed by ECO Construction Enterprise and there are over 20,000 remains of genocide victims which would be buried at the new site.
