Tuesday, November 26, 2019

Last week, national examinations were completed, and former senior six students have about a 10-month holiday before they could undertake higher education. Education Times’ Joan Mbabazi reached out to a number of them to find out how they intend to use their holiday.

Yannick Noah Igiraneza, G.S Kigeme A

I managed to get some training in photography. From my little savings, I started a photography company as I was still studying. I am hoping to focus on it as I seek to find more clients and develop my business.

Eric Tuyiringire, Ecole des Sciences de Musanze

Well, I am hoping to do a short course in baking so that I am able to start baking bread and cakes and supply them around Kigali. I believe by the time school resumes, I will have saved some money that will help me cater for some of my needs.

Natacha Jade Iriza, Lycee Notre Dame de Citeaux

It is high time I started saving for university, this will be effective if I manage to get a simple job. But I also want to learn new skills to sharpen my knowledge and understanding. For instance, through internship and volunteering.

Kevin Ishimwe, GS Remera Rukoma

I am going to use this period to help my mum in her decor business. However, I also, want to do some training in ICT.

Esther Umunyana, Maranyundo Girls’ School

I think programing is a course that would equip me with skills that will be helpful in the future. I am going for a short course in it. I also need to use this period to seek for counselling on the course that I will pursue at the university.

Aurore Ishimwe, Maranyundo Girls’ School

Holiday is the time I have to catch up and have fun with my friends. Since my dream is to be a doctor, I am hoping to try different institutes for training in my future career. I also want to get some time off at least every three times a week and do sports and discover new talents.

Amina Ishimwe, Essi Nyamirambo, Ecole Secondary Scientific Islamic School

I am planning to take on short courses and utilise the library for research and reading to add to what I know. I don’t want to be the one that doesn’t know what happens in the world we live in.

Vainqueur Ikuragire, Lycee de Kigali

I have been part of the French Club at school, I am going to continue engaging the youth so that they are able to learn the French language. Since I have all the time I need, I am hoping to explore. But also try applying for waiter jobs in restaurants.
