It’s that time of the year again for the Miss World pageant contest! The New Times has you covered with the date, location as well as the Rwandan representative.

The pageant, in its 69th edition, will be held in London, England, on Saturday December 14.

Representing Rwanda in the world’s most prestigious annual pageant is Meghan Nimwiza, Miss Rwanda 2019, who travelled to the UK on November 19. She ascended to the throne on January 26, this year, replacing Liliane Iradukunda, who also represented Rwanda at Miss World last year.

"I’m going for the challenge with confidence and faith…I trust that God will help me. Miss World pageant is one of the greatest competitions and I’m grateful to be able to take part in it,” Nimwiza told The New Times.

"I had an opportunity to learn a lot of tips from my colleagues, who previously participated in the competition. They shared with me their experiences and with that I believe I’ll be able to perform better and impress the jury,” she added.

Running under the theme, ‘Beauty with a purpose’, the event brings together women from around the world with a shared sense of purpose. The 20-year-old beauty queen is competing for the crown with 129 other women from around the world in a three-week event and the Miss World final.

Contestants will compete in a series of activities that include, multimedia, sports, talent, top model, head-to-head challenge and beauty with a purpose, taking them on a journey across some of London’s most iconic landmarks, such as its rich culture and heritage.

Miss World final show will be aired globally in over 150 countries, where viewers will watch as the reigning Miss World, Vanessa Ponce de León,  pass on the crown to the 69th Miss World at ExCel London, an award winning convention and events venue in the UK.
