U-15 Cricket tournament set to get underway next week

The 2nd edition of the U-15 Cricket Tournament will get underway on Monday 25th to Friday 29th November 2019 at Kicukiro Oval and Gahanga Cricket Stadium,  according to Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA).  

In this year’s tournament, RCA has expanded its reach to include girls in the competition.

The youth cricket tournament that is aimed at providing playing opportunities to young cricketers who have graduated from the mini cricket program is both aspirational and also forms a major part of  RCA talent identification process.

Joshua Mwanja the RCA development the manager has told this publication "It will help in identifying and keeping track of young talents as part of our high-performance development agenda. The existence of different age group competitions affords Rwanda cricket a chance to identify its most talented youngsters with the aim of bringing them through the youth ranks up to the senior national team”

He added that the most exceptional 20 boys and 20 girls from this tournament will be put in a camp where more skills will be imparted. These will form the basis of Rwanda’s future Under-19 Rwanda’s national team players.

Seven boy’s teams have confirmed participation. They include; Ndera Scorpions, Power Rangers, Gahanga Leopards, Sorwathe Lions, Muhanga Tigers, Huye Doves, and Eastern Dragons.

While six girls teams have confirmed participation. namely: Ndera Raptors, Gahanga Floaters, Sorwathe Falcons, Muhanga Violets, Huye Wolves, and Eastern Trojans.

Participating teams will face each other in a 15 over round-robin format, with the team collecting the most points being declared the tournament’s winners. Sowarthe Lions won the trophy last year.
