Over 1500 participants are expected to take part in this year’s ‘Kigali Run Blue’ road race on Sunday.

The third edition of the annual event is organised by Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF) in partnership with Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) and Rwanda Diabetes Association (RDA).

According to RAF, the participants will run a distance of 5 kilometres from Amahoro National Stadium to Rwanda Revenue Authority in Kimihurura.

The race will be in line with marking the 2019 World Diabetes Day in Rwanda, which was globally marked on Thursday, November 14. This year's theme for diabetes awareness month and World Diabetes Day is ‘Family and Diabetes’.

The 5km run is part of the awareness campaigns about the impact that diabetes has on the family and support a network of those affected, as well as promoting the role of the family in management, care, prevention and education of diabetes.

Last year, APR Athletics duo of Marthe Yankurije in women’s category, and Noel Hitimana in the men’s event, claimed the top honours.
