Thursday  Mozambique 2-0 Rwanda

RWANDA’s Amavubi endured a painful start to their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Thursday as they lost 2-0 to Mozambique in Group F, in Maputo.

The national team, Amavubi, who are seeking to end 17 years of non-qualification to the biggest continental football tournament, host Cameroon in their second game on Sunday.

In Thursday’s defeat, Edson Sitoe opened the scoring from the spot in the 25th minute to put the home side ahead before Stelio Ernesto doubled the advantage three minutes later.

After a slow start, Vincent Mashami’s men fought to get their way back into the game, but they couldn’t find the back of the Os Mambas nets despite having a few decent chances.

With the win, Mozambique are top Group F table with 3 points, followed by Cameroon and Cape Verde with one point apiece while Amavubi are bottom without a point yet.
