Stage 3: Fatick – Ngueniene (108km)

Benediction Excel Energy rider Didier Munyaneza has urged his riders to continue their fine form and help him hold onto the yellow jersey that he will be wearing in Wednesday’s Stage 3 at the ongoing Tour du Senegal.

The stage will be a 108km parcours from Fatick to Nguéniène in Western Senegal.

Munyaneza rode into the yellow jersey on Monday after finishing second in Stage 2, with the day’s victory belonging to Slovak Jan Andrej Cully.

"Being in yellow means a lot to me, and to the team. It is a great motivation,” Munyaneza told Times Sport in a telephone interview on Tuesday.

He added: "The competition is intense but we have to keep working as a team and try to keep this jersey. There is no doubt we have what it takes, we just have to focus on one stage a time and see how it goes at the end of the race.”

With a total time of 9 hours, 31 minutes and 27 seconds after the first two stages, Munyaneza leads second-placed Linert Thomas by three minutes and 20 seconds. German Linert won Stage 2 on Sunday.

Keller Herman, another German rider, is in third position with 10 seconds further behind.

Benediction roster:

Didier Munyaneza, Eric Manizabayo, Patrick Byukusenge, Yves Nkurunziza and Jean Claude Nzafashwanayo.
