The women’s national sitting volleyball team departed for the Japan last night, at 3:00am aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight, ahead of the 2019 World Super 6 Championship.

The tournament is scheduled for November 12-17.

Before the tournament, according to the National Paralympic Committee, the team will have a week of intensive training in the Japanese prefecture of Okinawa.

Speaking to this publication, assistant coach Jean-Marie Nsengiyumva said that the training camp in Japan will help the players to embrace the competition mood, and to acclimatize.

The World Super 6 tournament brings together six of the world’s best female sitting volleyball teams. Rwanda will be representing Africa after winning the world championships in September.

Rwanda sealed its slot in the tournament, and subsequently a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics after beating Egypt in the final at Amahoro Stadium.

In the meantime, Paralympian Hermas Cliff Muvunyi also leaves for Dubai today as the 30-year old represents the country at the upcoming 9th World Para Athletics Championships – due November 7-15.

From the Dubai world championships, Muvunyi will turn attention to the inaugural edition of the African Paralympic Games, scheduled for January 2020, in Morocco.
