National basketball league side Rwanda Energy Group (REG) have completed the signing of former Patriots coach Henry Mwinuka on a two-year deal.

Eric Bugingo, the club’s Team Manager, confirmed the development to Saturday Sport on Friday.

"He (Henry) is now our coach. He signed two years with us, with a possibility for extension,” said Bugingo.

Mwinuka, who won three league titles with Patriots – including the famous comeback against REG in playoffs finals in September – resigned as Patriots head coach last week after four years in the job.

The Tanzania-born tactician’s move to REG comes at a time when his old club, Patriots, needed him the most as they prepare for the second and final round of qualifiers for the Basketball Africa League (BAL) inaugural season.

"We want to build a strong team; a team that can not only dominate on local and regional scene, but also that can compete against the best on the continent. And, Coach Henry fits our ambitious targets,” Bugingo further noted.

Mwinuka will be looking to win the upcoming Legacy Tournament’s title when he takes charge of REG in his first official competition. The 2nd edition of the tournament starts on November 7 through November 10 at the Kigali Arena.

Prior to joining Patriots in December 2015, Mwinuka had previously coached the University of Dar es Salaam Basketball Club from 2003-2006 and Savio Basketball Club in 2007-2008 before moving to the Kampala International University (KIU) team from 2011 to 2015.
