YVES Mugunga scored late as APR salvaged a draw against hard-fighting Police to maintain their unbeaten run in the 2019/2020 Rwanda Premier League season at Kigali Stadium on Wednesday.

Police started brightly and controlled possession for much of the first half but several of their chances were thwarted by Umar Rwabugiri who was fantastic in APR goal. The first-half ended goalless.

After recess, Police never seemed to slow, but still missed more goal opportunities through Dominique Savio Nshuti and Celestin Ndayishimiye, until forward Dominique Antoine Ndayishimiye broke the deadlock in the 81st minute.

However, the lead for Francis Haringingo’s side was short-lived as young striker Mugunga quickly leveled two minutes later after dispatching a sublime finish in the top left corner beyond Police keeper Emmanuel Habarurema’s reach.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Musanze and Sunrise also played out a 1-all draw, while AS Kigali were frustrated by AS Muhanga in a goalless draw.

After six match rounds into the new campaign, Mukura top the table with 14 points, APR are second with same point tally but the former have a superior goal difference (8) compared to APR’s seven.

Reigning champions Rayon Sports, who are winless in their last two games, are in fifth position with 11 points.
