Hoops All-Star Game: Mugabe, Nijimbere to headline selections

Rwanda Basketball Federation, Ferwaba, has announced select squads for the 2019 BK All-Star Game with Aristide Mugabe and Guibert Nijimbere captaining the teams.

Mugabe, 31, has inspired Patriots to two back-to-back league titles while Nijimbere – who feature for IPRC-Kigali – is widely regarded as the most talented player in local basketball.

Scheduled for November 1 at the Kigali Arena, the event will also feature a three-point contest and slam dunk contest. On the night, the best performers for the 2018/2019 season will be awarded.

Ferwaba announced 26 players that make up the two teams – Team Aristide and Team Guibert – on Saturday.

Henry Mwinuka will coach Team Aristide, assisted by Albert Buhake, while Karim Nkusi will be assisted by Maxime Mwiseneza in their quest for the title of the ‘highly anticipated’ exhibition game.

Among awards to be given out, the local basketball body – through the league sponsors Bank of Kigali – will recognise the young player of the year, the highest scorer, and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) as well the referee of the year, coach of the year, fan of the year and volunteer of the year.
