Gicumbi have suspended assistant coach Camarade Banamwana for three matches for ‘unprofessional conduct’, the club announced.

The development was confirmed to Times Sport on Thursday by John Urayeneza, the club’s president.

The Gicumbi-based side are bottom of the topflight league table after three matches this term where they are yet to pick a point, having lost to Marines, AS Muhanga and Police.

Urayeneza says that Banamwana was suspended due to "unprofessional conduct” and not working well with head coach Jean Marie Vianney Smaili Nduwantare.

The decision was carefully taken based on several cases, Urayeneza insists, which probably contributed to their disappointing start in the 2019/2020 Rwanda Premier League season.

"We have not sacked him, it is only a suspension for three games. After serving his punishment and giving a valid explanation as to why he did what he did, he will be back to work,” said Urayeneza.

The allegations Banamwana faces at the club include failure to work smoothly with other members of the coaching staff, and making unilateral decisions.

"My suspension came as a surprise. I have been working with the coaching staff very well. I have never had even a single problem with anyone,” frustrated Banamwana said in a separate interview with this publication.

He added: "I don’t know what others think, but on my side, I have been giving my best.”

Following their 3-2 loss to Police last week, Gicumbi will be up against Mukura Victory Sports in their next match on Sunday.
