Over 3,000 youths to attend

The International Youth Camp is due to take place in Kigali, from August 24 to 29 attracting more than 3,000 university and college students from Asia, USA, Australia and Africa.

The World Camp is the main project of the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) a youth organization based in South Korea with branches in 80 countries including host Rwanda.

"We are preparing this project in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and it’s so far going on well because we are having the support from the government,” Venuste Kubwimana, the Executive Secretary of IYF Rwanda Chapter said in an interview.

According to Kubwimana, all students, including Rwandans, will  first have to apply to be able to attend the camp. The fellowship project is designed for youth to interact through music, sport and cultural programmes as an international youth conference.

Since 1995 the IYF has convened this gathering in different countries every year and among those countries that have previously hosted it include USA, Australia, Thailand, Ghana and Kenya.

According to Kubwimana, the budget for the event is expected to be 899,000 USD (494,450,000Frw) for the 5 days and 6 nights the youths will be in the country.

"We have invited Nelson Mandela and Bill Gates as the speakers but they are still to confirm. We normally invite the most influential speakers who can inspire the young generation,” Kubwimana added.

He added that the event will facilitate Rwandan youth to exchange experiences and have an international interaction.
