GASOGI United made their presence felt in the Rwanda Premier League as they held off champions Rayon Sports to a goalless draw at Amahoro Stadium on Saturday.

At the end of it all, Rayon only had themselves to blame after wasting several chances throughout the match including Michael Sarpong’s penalty that was superbly saved by Gasogi keeper Aime Gael Cuzuzo in the 19th minute.

Although the newcomers Gasogi largely played a defensive game – only trying to rely on counterattacks, they also had a number of chances but forwards Manasseh Mutatu, Tidiane Kone and Jean Bosco Kayitaba were shy in front of goal.

In other matches, Etincelles stunned SC Kiyovu 2-1 at Umuganda Stadium, thanks goals from Rashid Mutebi in either half, while Jean Claude Nizeyimana netted the visitors’ consolation goal. Jimmy Kibengo Namashengegwa scored twice as Bugesera beat Heroes 2-0 at Nyamata Stadium, while Mukura were held 1-1 by Espoir at Huye Stadium.

The match-day 1 action continues Sunday with Marines hosting Gicumbi at Umuganda Stadium, AS Muhanga taking on Musanze at Muhanga Stadium whereas Police face Sunrise at Kigali Stadium.
