Rwanda was again denied by Egypt a ticket to the Paralympic Games in men’s sitting volleyball after losing the final of the 2019 African ParaVolley Championships at Amahoro Stadium on Sunday.

The Egyptian side made light work of the hosts in straight sets (25-06, 25-11, 25-16) in only 50 minutes to retain the African championships title as they also booked their slot in next year’s Tokyo Paralympics.

"We did all we could. The opponent was just way better,” Rwanda skipper Emile Vuningoma told Times Sport after the defeat.

Rwanda had reached the final on Saturday after beating Algeria in semi-finals, while Egypt brushed aside Kenya in the last four.

In a repeat of the 2015 finals, Rwanda proved too powerful for Egypt in women’s category to land a second consecutive spot in the Paralympics, before Egypt’s male team returned the favour in men’s category to take the sole ticket allocated to Africa.

Algeria bagged the bronze medal after beating Kenya in four sets (25-21, 20-25, 25-15, 27-25) in the third-place match.

Final ranking 1. Egypt 2. Rwanda 3. Algeria 4. Kenya 5. Morocco 6. South Africa
