Benitha Mukandayisenga has made history by becoming the country’s first female volleyball player to secure a contract overseas after completing a move to Albania side Partizani.

The 24-year-old left the country Friday afternoon aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight to join her new side after powering UTB to their 2018/2019 league title in June.

The sensational left-attacker did not only help the university side to dethrone Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) who had won the championship back-to-back since 2013, but she also clinched the coveted award for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season.

"I am very happy for this achievement. Becoming for the first women to play professional volleyball in Rwanda is a humbling and exciting honour for me,” said Mukandayisenga.

"I am now up for a new challenge and a new chapter in my career. I want to learn as much as I can and contribute to my new club’s success.”

The player’s one-season contract with the Albanian outfit starts this month through May 2020, with an option for extension.

Mukandayisenga is one of the four foreign players in the club’s 2019/2020 squad, along with one American, one Slovak and one Turkish player. She is also the youngest member of the squad.
