RAYON Sports have departed Kigali for Sudan ahead of their first-round return-leg clash against Al Hilal Omdurman in the CAF Champions League on Sunday.

The club’s 30-member delegation, 19 players and 11 officials, flew to Khartoum aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight Thursday night, and are due to hold two light training sessions on Friday afternoon and Saturday.

Following the two sides’ 1-all draw in the first-leg two weeks ago, the Blues need a win or a draw bigger than 1-1 if they are to progress to the second round.

"We are going to battle with all we got for the result we need,” caretaker Jean-Baptiste Kayiranga told Times Sport on Thursday. "I have spoken with my players and urged them to give everything on the pitch as if their lives depend on the game.”

Kayiranga, a former Rayon Sports and Amavubi player and coach, was appointed as the club’s caretaker after Brazilian Roberto Oliveira’s resignation last week.

Rayon’s best campaign in continental football remains the 2018 season when – against all the odds – they reached the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The winner between Rayon and Al Hilal will either face Rahimo of Burkina Faso or Nigeria giants Enyimba in the second round.
