Ndamukunda, Mukunzi suffer early exit in Beach Volleyball World Tour

Volleyball stars Flavien Ndamukunda and Christophe Mukunzi suffered an early exit from the ongoing FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour on Thursday after losing two games.

The 2019 edition of the world-class competition started Wednesday and will be concluding on Saturday at the Pearl Beach, in Rubavu district.

Japanese pair of Hitoshi Murakami and Keisuke Shimizu dominated Ndamukunda and Mukunzi in straight sets 21-12 and 21-13 in their first defeat before the home boys fell to England.

With two defeats in one day, the pair bowed out of the tournament without a win. However, their compatriots Venuste Gatsinzi and Fils Harindintwari progressed to the next round with a 1:1 ratio after beating Japan’s second team before losing to Sweden.

In the meantime, Rwanda’s main women team comprising Charlotte Nzayisenga and Judith Hakizimana play in the quarter-finals on Friday. By press time Thursday, the star pair was yet to know who they would face.
