Last week on February 9th and 10th, Rwanda hosted the first East African Community (EAC) retreat. All member countries in the EAC came together  to discuss ways of strengthening the community. During the meeting issues were raised as to why the integration of the five East African countries was so slow.

President Paul Kagame, who is also the chairman of the EAC, emphasised the idea of having the retreat every year so that member countries can review their performance. He also said that necessary changes should be made in order to make the integration process run smoothly.

Rwanda became a member of the EAC in June 2007 and president Kagame was elected to head the community just five months after it had been accepted into it.
