As you read this issue, you will discover a number of things about different cultures. Culture in simple terms is a way of life. It involves different things like language, dressing, dance and people’s beliefs. Our culture binds us together.

Within a people culture lays the values that hold us together. Culture also reminds us of the different roles we all play to maintain our way of life.

Culture is always unique. It defines who people are for example, in the Rwandese culture; the traditional dance is purely Rwandan. You cannot find another group of people dancing exactly like this.

Sometimes because of influence from other societies we can forget our past cultural practices. This is not good because we will lose who we are. We forget how important culture is in holding us together.

Some people have a different culture from us but this does not mean ours is better than theirs. It just means that the world is made up of different people and cultures that are all equally nice and beautiful.

We should appreciate and learn our culture. Even as we develop, let everything remind us of our culture and our belonging.
