CAF Champions League, August, 9 Rayon Sports vs Al Hilal Omdurman

Rayon Sports coach Roberto Oliveira Gonçalves do Carmo ‘Robertinho’ has revealed that there is still more work to do if the Blues are to see off Sudanese side Al Hilal Omudurman in the CAF champions league tie on August 9.

The Blues played a warm up match against AS Kigali last week which they won 1-0, after dominating the City of Kigali side for large parts of the match. Michael Sarpong scored the lone goal in the 85th minute from a Oumar Sidibe pass.

"We played good and entertaining football and the win over AS Kigali was convincing and the team spirit has been better,” Robertihno said.

Rayon Sports are in preparations for the upcoming two-legged tie against CAF Champions Al Hilal Omdurman in the first round of the continent’s premier clubs competition at Kigali Stadium.

The first-leg is scheduled for the weekend of August 9-11 in Kigali.

"Playing against an experienced team like AS Kigali was a good litmus test to weigh ourselves and up our preparations. It was a massive boost of our morale and confidence ahead of the Champions League game.”

The decisive clash will be played on the weekend of August 23-25 in Khartoum.

The aggregate winner will either face Rahimo of Burkina Faso or Nigeria powerhouse Enyimba in the second round.

"The warm-up game gave us a good opportunity to see experienced new players, who are making their first appearance. I think we are ready for the competition,” he stated.

Robertinho was instrumental in guiding Rayon Sports to win the league last season and also steered the club to the Agaciro tournament trophy and Heroes trophy besides leading the Blues to the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
