AS KIGALI Coach Eric Nshimiyimana has backed his new signing, Fiston Nkinzingabo, to become one of the best players in the country.

The forward is the lastest addition to AS Kigali squad after completing his two-year move from local giants APR over the weekend.

A fortnight ago, the club also acquired the services of Amavubi skipper Haruna Niyonzima in a signing spree that included four foreign players; three Cameroonians and one Gabonese striker.

"He is a player who can score goals and provide assists to help the team to win. He is very talented and has the potential to become a top player,” Nshimiyimana, who rejoined AS Kigali last week, told Times Sport in an interview on Sunday.

"We just have to be patient and help him raise his level.”

The City of Kigali-sponsored side will start their 2019/2020 season against Tanzania’s Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC) in the CAF Confederation Cup on the weekend on August 9-11.

"We are a good team but football is about scoring goals, that’s why we have focused more on reinforcing our attack. We want to reach far in continental football and challenge for the league title.”

In a separate interview, Nkinzingabo told this publication that he was delighted to join AS Kigali and hopes to get consistent playing time.

"Joining AS Kigali feels like a home-coming because I am close to everyone at the club. I am looking forward to enjoying my football here and help them to win titles,” said Nkinzingabo.

He added, "I think AS Kigali is the best team for me to be at right now. APR is great team with good leadership, but at this stage of my career, I need to be playing regularly, so by joining AS Kigali I hope it will give me the opportunity to get more playing time.”

Should AS Kigali see off KMC, they will face the winner between Uganda’s Proline and Masters Security Services of Malawi in the second round of the continent’s second biggest club competition.

Last season, AS Kigali finished seventh in the Azam Rwanda Premier League.
