Final Gasogi 1-1 Heroes (4-2 penalty)

Third place Etoile de l’Est 3-0 Sorwathe

Gasogi United are champions of the 2018/2019 Second Division League following their 4-2 victory over Heroes FC on penalties.

The normal time had ended in a 1-all draw.

Striker Moise Nyarugabo broke the deadlock to put Heroes ahead in the 58th minute, but Bertrand Dusange brought Gasogi back into the game with a stunning strike nine minutes later.

Kicukiro-based Heroes had reached the final after edging out Etoile de l’Est in the semi-finals on Wednesday, while Marcel Lomami’s Gasogi saw off Sorwathe.

Besides the champions’ trophy, Gasogi also pocketed Rwf3million in cash prize, while beaten finalists Heroes received Rwf1.5million.

In the meantime, Etoile de l’Est finished the season on a high as they beat Sorwathe 3-0 to finish third, and walked away with Rwf500,000 of prize money.

The two finalists, Gasogi United and Heroes, are the newest members of the 16-team Azam Rwanda Premier League – for 2019/2020 season – and will be replacing Kirehe and Amagaju who were relegated last month.

The new topflight league season kicks-off on September 13.
