RAYON Sports have set up a clash against Ugandan side KCCA in the Cecafa Kagame Cup quarter-finals after losing their final group game on Saturday.

The Blues lost 1-0 to Tanzania’s KMC, at Kigali Stadium, to advance to the last eight as Group A first runners-up with six points, thanks to their opening two victories against TP Mazembe and Atlabara.

With the defeat, it means that Rayon and archrivals APR can only meet in the final after the latter topped Group C on Thursday.

On Saturday, the lone goal that stunned Rayon came from Hassan Kabunda in the 38th minute, a wonderful header that gave goalie Andre Mazimpaka no chance following a curling cross from right-back Ally Ramazan.

However, despite the win, KMC still bowed out of the tournament after dropping points in a draw with Atlabara in their first match, followed by a defeat to TP Mazembe.

The loss handed Mazembe the top spot courtesy of a better goal difference (5) compared to Rayon Sports’ three. The former, who wrapped up their group campaign with an emphatic 6-1 win over South Sudanese strugglers Atlabara, will face holders Azam in the next round.

Strikers Jackson Muleka and Rainford Kalaba scored a brace each while Christian Kouame and Glody Likonza netted other two goals.

The consolation goal for Atlabara was scored by Ombeyond.

In the meantime, the tournament’s group stage come to a climax on Sunday with two matches in Group D as hopefuls Gor Mahia take on KMKM at Umuganda Stadium, starting at 1pm, while Eritrea’s AS Ports face AS Miniema of DR Congo. Kick-off 3:30pm.
