The national U-20 women’s volleyball team will face Japan in their first match at the upcoming the 2019 FIVB World Championships, scheduled for July 12-21 in Mexico.

Rwanda have been place in Pool D alongside Japan, Brazil, and Dominican Republic.

Under the guidance of Christophe Mudahinyuka, the team had two weeks of intensive preparations at Amahoro Stadium before departing Kigali for Mexico last night aboard a KLM Airlines flight, at 8pm.

"To be honest; it’s going to be a difficult group,” Mudahinyuka admitted in an interview with Sunday Sport on Saturday.

"We are ready to do our best and see if we can get out of the group stage.”

Asked about the teams to wary about the most in the group, he singled out Brazil and Japan as the two favourites, but insisted that his side won’t bow to anyone.

Rwanda secured ticket to this year’s world championships after finishing second at the Africa Cup of Nations in Nairobi, Kenya, last year.
