SC Kiyovu will be optimistic to end their title jinx when they face AS Kigali in the Peace Cup 2019 final at Kigali Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off 5pm.

At the same time, the Green Baggies also look to win the tournament for first time, having previously claimed it as Rwanda Cup in 1975 and 1985.

According to Alain Kirasa, the head coach of SC Kiyovu, Thursday’s final is a now-or-never affair for the two Nyamirambo-based sides who want to merge into one stronger team starting with the 2019/2020 season.

"It is going to be a tough match for both sides,” said Kirasa, before noting that "Winning the Peace Cup with Kiyovu would definitely be one of the biggest achievements as a coach so far.”

Should his side, who lost three consecutive Peace Cup finals from 1995 to 1997, lift this year’s title, they will automatically secure a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Kirasa added: "There is a lot at stake, and my players are up for the challenge. We will battle with all we got to win the game – and ultimately the title.”

But, on the other hand, AS Kigali will also be looking extend their perfect record in Peace Cup finals, after winning the tournament’s title in 2001 and 2013.

Jean de Dieu Mateso’s side reached the final last Saturday after stunning Rayon Sports in semi-finals, while Kiyovu edged out Police.
