Volleyball: Women’s U-20 team step up preps for World Champs

Groups

Group A:              Mexico, USA, Italy and Cuba

Group B:               China, Poland, Egypt and Peru

Group C:               Russia, Turkey, Argentina and Serbia

Group D:              Japan, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Rwanda

The national under-20 women volleyball team have embarked on intensive preparations ahead of the 2019 FIVB World Championships, which is due from July 12 through 21 in Mexico.

Under the tutelage of Christophe Mudahinyuka, who is assisted by Alex Nkuranga, the team reported to residential camp Tuesday evening before carrying out their first training session on Wednesday morning at Amahoro Stadium.

Rwanda has been drawn in Group A along with Japan, Brazil and Dominican Republic.

The tournament will see sixteen teams from five confederations vying for honours in the Mexican cities of León and Aguascalientes.

Pool A and D matches, and all the tournament’s knock-outs, will be played in Aguascalientes, while León City will play hosts to Pool B and C games.

Mudahinyuka’s side qualified for the world championships last year after they finished second at the Africa Women’s U20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.

It is the first time that a Rwandan women’s team is competing in any indoor volleyball world championships.
