Saturday Gasogi 1-1 AS Kigali (2-3) Police 2-2 Etincelles (4-3)

Police and AS Kigali have confirmed their spots in the last four of the Peace Cup tournament after edging out Etincelles and Gasogi, respectively, in quarter-finals on Saturday.

The two former winners of the tournament will know who they face in semi-finals on Sunday after Rayon Sports’ return-leg against Gicumbi and the clash between SC Kiyovu and Intare.

Speaking to Sunday Sport in a post-match interview, Police coach Maurice Nshimiyimana said: "We are happy to reach the last four, the players were fantastic.”

The law enforcers were held 2-2 by Etincelles at Kigali Stadium on Saturday, but progressed 4-3 on aggregate having won the first-leg 2-1 in Rubavu on Wednesday.

The game had almost everything you need to see in a cup quarter-final with hard tackles flying and tempers flaring at times but referee did so well to contain every situation.

For longer spells of game in second half, Police played inside their half as the midfield and defence did their bit dutifully, a strategy that gave too much freedom for Etincelles defence to play without much pressure.

After the game, a frustrated Etincelles coach Innocent Seninga said, "Only one team came to play while the other just packed the bus, but this is football.”

In another quarter-final return leg, AS Kigali saw off Gasogi United 3-2 on aggregate despite playing out a 1-all draw on Saturday. The City of Kigali-sponsored side won the first-leg 2-1 on Wednesday.

Rayon, who travel to Gicumbi District for their second-leg tie against Gicumbi on Sunday afternoon, have one foot into semi-finals after clashing Gicumbi 7-1 in the first leg on Thursday.

Alain Kirasa’s SC Kiyovu also hold a 3-0 advantage from the first-leg going into Sunday’s return leg against second division side Gasogi United.

The game starts 3pm at Mumena Stadium.
