Egypt Vs Zimbabwe 10pm

Egypt will be looking to make a strong start when they take on Zimbabwe in the opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations at Cairo International Stadium on Friday. Kick-off 10pm CAT.

The Pharaohs, who were only awarded the hosting rights in January, look to use the best of home advantage for a record-extending eighth AFCON title.

Cameroun, who are in Group F, were the original hosts but the tournament was taken away due to security and preparation concerns.

Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s Champions League hero, leads Egypt’s charge and hopes for their first AFCON title since 2010 after his side lost 2-1 to Cameroun in the 2017 final.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe are playing in the tournament for a fourth time but have never made it past the group phase and finished bottom of their section in 2017, failing to win a game.

As the reported by the BBC, this is the fifth time Egypt are hosting the competition, having won it on three of the previous four occasions – in 1959, 1986 and 2006 – and coming third in 1974.
