The world football governing body has rolled out a plan to take over the running of the Confederation of African Football in effort to ‘drastically’ overhaul African football, SuperSport reports

It is expected that the announcement will be made in a press conference in Egypt on Thursday, the eve of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2019) kick-off.

The hosts, Egypt, face Zimbabwe Friday afternoon in the tournament’s opener.

Fifa’s stunning move follows the corruption scandal of CAF president Ahmad Ahmad who was briefly arrested for questioning a fortnight ago in France before being released without charge.

It is understood that the Fifa general secretary, Fatma Samoura, will be brought in as the principal in-charge with the title ‘Fifa High Commissioner for Africa’.
