Women’s Cricket team to face Mali in T20 opener

The National women’s cricket team will take on Mali in this year’s edition of the Kwibuka Women T20 tournament 2019, which will be staged at Gahanga Stadium from June 18 to 23.

Tanzania, who finished third last year, will start their campaign against last year’s runner-up Uganda in the second match.

Hosts Rwanda return to action on Wednesday when they take on Uganda in what is expected to be an entertaining contest. In the morning, Mali faces Tanzania.

Gahanga Cricket Oval Stadium will play host to twelve games, with two matches to play each day without resting.

With four teams featuring in this year’s competition, each team will play six matches on around ribbon format before the winner is determined by net run rate.

Fans around Gahanga will be treated to competitive women cricket when the tournament resumes on day three, with Uganda facing Mali on Thursday while Rwanda play their third match against Tanzania in the afternoon.

In the other matches, Rwanda will play Mali on Friday, while Tanzania take on Uganda.

The T20 competition curtains will fall, with Uganda taking on Mali in the morning before Rwanda who are eyeing the trophy on home soil for the first time, battle against Tanzania on Sunday.

Kenyan women cricket team will miss out after opting out to defend the title they’ve won three times successively. Reports from Kenya claim all its employees together with coaches have been sent on unpaid leave for an unspecified period. It is the second time they have failed to come after their 2014 no-show.
