Commonwealth boss lauds KIST

The Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba, yesterday praised Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) for its role in technological development of the nation. She said this briefly after her tour to the country’s leading technology institute that is located in Kigali City.

The Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba, yesterday praised Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) for its role in technological development of the nation. She said this briefly after her tour to the country’s leading technology institute that is located in Kigali City.

Briefly after touring the campus, Masire-Mwamba said; "centres like these are critical for the development of industries and investment promotion of country.”

Mwamba, who was in the country to attend the just-concluded East African Community Strategy Retreat, said that she had heard about KIST before and during her trip to Rwanda which prompted her to visit it.

Before touring the compass, Masire-Mwamba held a brief lecture to KIST students and lecturers about the purpose of her visit to Rwanda.

She also briefed them on the operations and activities of the Commonwealth where she talked about its main interests of democracy, development and education among others.

Rwanda has expressed interest in joining the Commonwealth, an international body that brings together English speaking countries mainly former colonies of Britain and its approval could to take place later this year.
